Governor Brown Signs SB 1167!

Please join CHHC in thanking Senator Ben Hueso and Governor Jerry Brown for their leadership in promoting healthy housing in California by authoring and signing, repectively, SB 1167.  Sponsored by CHHC members the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO), Physicians for Social Responsiblity-Los Angeles, and Regional Asthma Management and Prevention (RAMP), this new law (which takes effect January 1, 2015) will ensure that those cited for pest infestations are not only required to eliminate the pest, but to also remediate any other substandard condtions that contribute to the infestation, such as leaky plumbing and cracks and holes in walls and flooring.  By requiring owners to fix the underying conditions that cause an infestation, this new law will encourage the use of more effective pest management practices leading to more effective, long-term, and healthier solutions to pest problems.  Click here to learn more about this issue.

Again, please join CHHC in thanking Senator Hueso and Governor Brown!

CHHC 2014 Annual Meeting A Success!

CHHC AM 2014 - 3

Thanks to everyone that attended this year's annual meeting in Sacramento (February 3rd).  We had great presentations on incorporating health into General Plans, data available through the Environmental Health Tracking Program, and the state of housing policy in California along with productive workgroup discussions geared towards establishing the coalition's agenda and priorities for 2014.  Those able to stay for our Action Day spent day two meeting with their local representatives at the Capitol to discuss our statewide priorities and highlight local healthy housing successes and challenges.  Through efforts like this the coalition is able to raise awareness of healthy housing issues and gain support for our policy efforts among policymakers.
