Lead Poisoning Prevention Workgroup

This new workgroup seeks to eliminate exposure to lead hazards in the home and improve the identification of and support to lead poisoned children.

Workgroup Priorities

  • Ensure the use of lead-safe work practices whenever lead paint could be disturbed, including improving the enforcement of the US EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Regulations (RRP).
  • Support the implementation of recently passed bills focused on lead poisoning prevention, including increased outreach and education to improve rates of blood lead testing.
  • Improve the early identification of lead hazards and children at risk of lead poisoning.

Accomplishments

As a result of collaboration, workgroup members have advanced state policies to improve lead poisoning prevention efforts:

  • Directed the state to take over the administration and enforcement of the US EPA’s RRP Regulations – SB 1076 (2022).
