Lead Poisoning Prevention Workgroup

This new workgroup seeks to eliminate exposure to lead hazards in the home and improve the identification of and support to lead poisoned children.

Workgroup Priorities

  • Ensure the use of lead-safe work practices whenever lead paint could be disturbed, including improving the enforcement of the US EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Regulations (RRP).
  • Support the implementation of recently passed bills focused on lead poisoning prevention, including increased outreach and education to improve rates of blood lead testing.
  • Improve the early identification of lead hazards and children at risk of lead poisoning.

Accomplishments

  • This new workgroup grew out the coalition’s effort to transfer the administration and enforcement of the US EPA’s RRP Regulations to California. Recognizing wide interest among members in lead hazard, the coalition formed this workgroup in 2018.
